What is the Material Library
The Material Library is a constantly evolving physical library showcasing various materials and there properties. With the pursuit of sustainable material alternatives for the future we have sourced various samples from both practitioners at the research stage as well as materials that are in full production. We have also sourced more traditional options that still have validity as a sustainable material.
The materials on display cover a range of industries and can be used in various applications from fashion through to construction. By housing so many materials together we hope the space can inspire industries to think outside the box and encourage researchers to pursue alternative resources.
We have built our Material Library in collaboration with Materiom – Materiom is an open platform for materials experimentation and development for a circular economy. The library showcases materials made with there open source recipes that act as a stepping stone for designers to start there own explorations.
The Material Library has been developed it conjunction with the OD&M project – using principles of open design and manufacturing the space acts as an open resource for both industry and individuals to visit and engage with possible solutions to complex problems of sustainability within the design industry.
